Coach Code of Conduct

COACHING CODE OF CONDUCT
SPRINGFIELD ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION

The Springfield Athletic Association (SAA) implemented the following Coaching Code of Conduct for the important message it holds about the role of all coaches. Coaches should read and understand this form prior to participating in our organization.  We want every child’s experience to be safe and positive.  Coaches play a key role in making that a reality.

The SAA shall take whatever measures necessary to enforce this Code of Conduct.  Any coach guilty of improper conduct at any game or practice may be asked to leave the field and be suspended from the following game or games. Repeat or severe violations may cause forfeiture of the privilege of attending all games and/or the dismissal of a coach from current duties and exclusion from any future coaching opportunities in the SAA.

As a coach you agree to the following:

1. I will learn the rules of the game and policies of the league.

2. I will treat each player and parent equally and with respect regardless of race, creed, color, sex or ability.

3. In conjunction with the organization, I will provide a safe, positive fun filled environment and experience for each child.

4. I will be a positive role model for each child and encourage sportsmanship by showing respect, courtesy, and by demonstrating positive support for all players, coaches, officials, and spectators at every game and practice.

5. I will promote and enact sportsmanship for players, coaches, parents and officials.

6. I will NOT encourage any behaviors or practices that would endanger the health and well being of athletes, officials, coaches, parents or spectators.

7. I will emphasize that all children treat other players, coaches, officials, and spectators with respect regardless of race, creed, color or ability.

8. I will promote that every child plays by the rules and assist in resolving conflicts with the absence of hostility or violence.

9. I will motivate players in practice and games through respect, passion and intellect, not by intimidation or ridicule.

10. I will respect the authority of game officials even if I disagree with their judgments. I will always speak to officials in a respectful manner.

11. I will not use or be under the influence of alcohol, tobacco or drugs at practices or games.

12. I will teach each player that doing one’s best is more important than winning, so that every child will never feel defeated by the outcome of a game or his/her performance.

13. I will praise each player for competing fairly when they try hard.

14. I will never ridicule a child for making a mistake or losing.

15. I will promote the emotional and physical well being of the players ahead of any personal desire I may have for winning.

16. I will not use profanity nor will I encourage the use of profanity at practice or games.

17. I will welcome discussions with parents about practices/games in a constructive manner at all times.
