Girls Travel Lacrosse

About the program

Springfield AA Girls Travel Lacrosse strives to develop lacrosse skills, game fundamentals and a love for the game in a positive environment.  The program enlists the support of parent volunteer coaches to develop good sportsmanship values in our players. Because of the dedication these coaches show, and because of parent support, the participation continues to grow each year!

All teams participate in the Philadelphia Area Girls Lacrosse Association (PAGLA), a league committed to growing the game for township programs for girls 3rd through 8th grade. Starting at the 5/6 level there are leveled teams (A & B) and playoffs have been implemented for A teams.

In 2021, our 5/6 A and 7/8 A teams both made it to the finals, and our 7/8 team won their second consecutive Central West championship!  Our goal is to create balanced teams that are competitive at each level and allow the players to continue to grow in the sport, gaining and improving skills.

Additional travel lacrosse information:

Uniforms
- A uniform package from C&M sports will be required for every travel player. Pieces can be re-ordered as needed in future years. Player name and number of choice will be available on these new uniforms.

A link to the 2022 webstore will be posted in the new year!

The uniform is a custom jersey and navy blue skort (shorts for goalies). Please put your last name on the back of the jersey and your daughter may choose her number (duplicates are okay).

We are aware this is early, however, in order to have uniforms in time for the start of the season- no orders can be received after the webstore close date! Since these are custom uniforms there are no returns or exchanges.

**Our recommendation is to size up if you can so that your daughter can wear the uniform next year too!

There will also be spirit wear available in the online store as well if you would like to have new gear for the start of the season!

Uniforms and all spirit wear can be picked up directly from C&M when it arrives (you will receive a phone call/email) If you have any questions please feel free to contact C&M directly.

Tournaments- We are looking to have each team participate in one or two tournaments. More information will be available as the season progresses. Additional tournaments or play-days may be added at the coaches discretion and will vary by team (additional fees may apply).

Practices-  Every team should expect to practice one to two times per week. Practice schedules will be known in late spring and are made in consideration of all SAA teams and High School teams use of fields. Girls lacrosse typically uses ETR field, Veterans Memorial and Sabold and are subject to field conditions as determined by the township. *7/8 teams sometimes practice only once per week as many girls also play for their middle school teams 5 days a week. Practices will start around early March depending on field availability and weather.

Games-  Every team will have at least one game on either a Saturday or Sunday. *Sometimes double header weekends are scheduled to make up games cancelled due to weather.

3/4 grade teams play 3- twenty (20) minute games in a round-robin format, 7v7 on a short field. Goalies are encouraged but not required. If no goalie plays, a shot blocker will be used.

5/6 and 7/8 grade teams play full field 12v12. Goalies are required. Games are 2- twenty-five (25) minutes halves with a 5-minute half time.

Opening weekend for 5/6 and 7/8 grades is targeted for March 19th, and March 26th for grades 3/4.

Time and locations will be available in early Spring on PAGLA's website. We are in the Central West division www.pagla.org

The PAGLA tournament typically ends the season on June 4th (5/6th & 7/8th) and 5th (3/4th).
3/4th grade teams should plan on attending!

We will check on player availability for the older teams, as we know many players begin tournaments with their club teams at this time.  If enough players are available, we can send teams.

Coaches- Teams are coached by volunteer parents. Coaches are always needed! Without volunteers this program cannot be as successful as it has been. If you are interested in coaching a team, please let us know, no experience required- we will teach you!  We do not want to cut players but we can only field teams if we have coaches to ensure appropriate roster sizes.

Teams-

3/4 grade teams are evenly divided so that rosters are as balanced as possible. The goal is to have fun and learn new things! *Kids in younger grades may not play up. They are eligible to play in our K-2 clinic!

5/6 and 7/8 grade teams- we are required by PAGLA to have an A level team at each of these grade levels. All players will be considered for A teams during evaluations, unless otherwise requested. It is strongly encouraged to attend all evaluations.  A-teams are based on skill level, aggressiveness and field/game sense.  Any player not placed on an A team will be placed on evenly divided B-teams.  While this can be stressful for players please know that it is not indicative of future performance or ability!!  We want all girls to play as much as possible, have fun and improve all season long!
**When possible outside coaches will be present at 5/6 and 7/8 evaluations for unbiased feedback which will be incorporated with coaches feedback from last season as rosters are developed.

*Teams are dependent on available coaches- please consider volunteering your time.

Team information will be posted on the website, as well as emailed to players in late February.

Looking forward to a great 2022 season!
