Coronavirus: March 12 update

After weeks of preparation the stage was set for SAA spring softball, baseball, lacrosse and SFC travel soccer to get rolling as usual. We appreciate all the volunteers who have helped with rosters, tryouts, equipment, uniforms, fields and of course coaching.

Unfortunately, we also have to acknowledge that the Coronavirus is weighing heavily on our community and that it will impact our programs. Some nearby towns have closed schools leading some community sports programs to pause activities. Some of the leagues we participate in are also evaluating their plans.

Locally, the Springfield School District is taking new measures to help mitigate the risk of the virus spreading via sports events, etc.  At the state and national levels we’ve all seen headlines from government officials, public health authorities and some dramatic actions by major professional and college sports programs.

As a result, all SAA activities are paused through March 16 so we have time to process next steps in concert with local leagues and to make sure we are complying with guidance from state, local and federal authorities.

As a volunteer-powered community sports we are eager to have kids participate in our programs, but we also want them and our families to be safe in the current environment. We are hopeful that the kids will be outdoors and enjoying SAA sports this spring.  The SAA appreciates your patience as we try to navigate this unprecedented situation in the days and weeks ahead.

Stay tuned for more.

Best regards,
